Fugitives caught in Parkdale
Toronto — A U.S. couple wanted for the alleged rape of a four-year-old disabled girl in Ohio were arrested Thursday (03/04/04) afternoon in Toronto.
Patricia Kelley and John D. Stoneman were arrested in Parkdale Thursday where they had been living and working under aliases.
Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto police tracked down Kelly, 39, at the Skyline Diner on Queen St. West where she was working as a waitress. She led police to a nearby apartment where Stoneman, also 39, was arrested as well.
The couple fled the U.S. last June after police discovered a videotape that featured them assaulting and terrorizing the severely handicapped girl.
The child, who was under Kelley's care at the time, is blind and suffers from spina bifida, seizures and other ailments that have left her unable to move or talk.
On Tuesday OPP officers traced the pair to Orillia, where they had sold their car to a pawnshop owner.
